It is a fascinating thing for us to discover more about a new cultural environment. Besides organizing language courses for ethnic minorities, we have cultural field trips frequently for anyone who wants to have fun while learning the history of Hong Kong.

A cultural trip to Central Western District was organized on 12th February, 2011. Among the 25 participants who joined the trip, over half of them were teenagers.

The walk started at Sheung Wan and ended at the Central District. This special route let participants have a glimpse of how the hustling and bustling modern city mingling with colourful traditional monuments. The participants had a whole day to visit some western style monuments that was built during the colonial era, such as the former Central Police Station and the Victorian Prison. Also, they visited a traditional-style temple, Man Mo temple.

Most of the participants loved the trip because they could experience the culture of Hong Kong, which is influenced by the west but also preserved several Chinese traditions. Moreover, it is quite rare to see modern buildings neighboured with old style street stalls, just like Pottinger Street. The style of old mixing with the new is what makes Hong Kong charming.
